There are many things about politics, leadership, and culture in America today that are difficult to understand. But, The Big Lie is one that truly boggles my mind. Many hard-right GOP supporters believe two things that cannot coexist. They think that people of color, immigrants who are legitimate citizens, and blacks should not be eligible to vote. Part of this belief, although unspoken, is the thinking that this portion of our citizenship is not educated and not intelligent enough to vote. It is evident from the voter suppression laws adopted in many state legislatures. Most of the provisions of these laws are designed to make voting more difficult for minorities and very low on the income scale. Many of these voters have no personal transportation, no driver's license, and, importantly, cannot take any time off from their jobs to stand in line at severely reduced numbers of polling places. The alleged rationale for these new restrictions is to restore integrity in our electoral processes. Although there is no evidence of any voter fraud, this is the string the Republicans continue to pluck.
At the same time, we are asked to believe the Democrats pulled off "the most corrupt election fraud in history. " This, according to the former guy. The disgraced twice impeached former President Trump. Voter fraud on a scale that Trump claims would require a massive, highly coordinated effort by extremely competent actors. Not in any way; a description of how Republicans think about the Democratic majority.
So, what are we supposed to believe? Clearly, those of us with logical brains understand these two conditions cannot coexist. More to the point, what are Trump's delusional supporters told to think? They are told that the 2020 election was "rigged?"
So, what I don't understand is how these two beliefs can exist simultaneously. It is "Not Understandable. "
